North Wales - September 2018 - Betws-y-Coed

The next guest house we had booked, for a 2 night stay, was in Betws-y-Coed, literally right in the village.  We didn't move the car the whole time we were there, just enjoyed the delights of everything this lovely Snowdonian village has to offer.

Our first afternoon was spent walking around the village and we enjoyed a lovely meal that evening sat outside our favourite pub (OK it was an under cover area AND it had outdoor heating!!).

It rained heavily overnight that night and the next morning the river was in full flow - just stunning - and the sound was amazing!
We were blessed with a rare dry day for our only full day here so after a lovely breakfast, and a recommendation for a walk from the guest house owner, we put on our walking boots and headed up into the woods to Llyn Elsi, a lake with stunning views of Snowdonia.  It was tough going, uphill all the way, but well worth it for the views and signs of Autumn.

We spent the evening sat outside the same pub as the night before, but in the sunshine this time, enjoying our last night there.

This was the guesthouse we stayed in and the view from our bedroom.

  1. I think I must be the only person who absolutes hates Betws-y-Coed - wild horses wouldn't drag me back there. The place is full of nothing but drab grey buildings and overpriced outdoor and gift shops. Too many people and narrow pavements making it hard to walk safely with the dogs, also a nightmare finding somewhere to park. It was there that I got my van door damaged because of some idiot woman in a motorhome taking up all the room coming out of the car park - it cost me a new sliding door when I got back home. And I won't mention the staff of one hotel/pub on the main road who bludgeoned a defenceless kitten to death a while back :( I'm glad you got some good photos though, I do like the red toadstools :)

  2. I think if I'd had your experiences there I'd not be too keen to go back either! We've always had great times there both in the motorhome and now B&Bing.
